American Tragedy in Four Acts

(Satire of a country that bites its tail)

This is America, the theatre of illusions, where ballot papers turn into weapons against oneself.
Four characters advance on stage, each grotesque in their own way, each believing that they play the role of the savior but ending up with a tragic farce:

Latino amnesia, who to close the door behind him applauds the one who slams his window in his nose.

African-American macho, which to lower a woman offers as a gift to her own executioner.

The Little White Nostalgic, who still dreams of a cotton throne and an empire of cowboys,
but finds himself king naked, crown in cardboard on the head.

The Golden Cardboard BilliardaryKing of Monopoly, an imperial clown, who wants to buy the planet.

All applauded the slogan « Make America Great Again » , each for absurd reasons, and all found themselves trapped in their own reflection.

Act I: The Latino who closed the door behind him

He ran across the border,
Swearing America was paradise.
A paradise with XXL burgers,
And papers in order, at last!

Arrived there, miracle:
We give him a voter card.
And he, proud as a Sunday conquistador,
He votes for the man from the wall!

The wall!
Whoever wants to block his cousins,
her aunts, her nephews,
And even the grandmother stuck with her rosary.

But he smiles,
He thinks he's smart.
« I'm in there, close the back! »

What a strategist...
Close the door of the house
while he's still in the hallway.

Act II: African-American who voted by misogyny

He knows the history of chains,
struggles, fights, marches,
But in the face of a female candidate,
It felt tiny,
Like a cock without a ridge.

Then, out of wounded pride,
He preferred the orange grimace,
the billionaire who calls him « loser »,
Rather than a woman in power.

He thought he said:
« No to female arrogance! »
He said:
« Yes, whip me again, boss! »

What a victory!
He traded his dignity bulletin
against a free ticket to the circus clown.

And when he wanted to protest,
Too late:
The clown had already closed the cage.

Act III: The Little White Nostalgic of His Reign

He looks at his past as a jauni album reads:
triumphant cowboys, missing Indians,
Black chained who worked free
while he worshipped, master of the plains and cotton fields.

Today, he's scared.
Fear of brown faces in the subway,
Black neighbors who succeed better than him,
women who want their place.

Then he takes refuge in the speeches of fair:
« Make America Great Again! »
Translation:
« Give me back my whip, my collar and my illusions! »

He trembles in front of the shadow of his own decommissioning,
Like a naked king who still cries:
« This throne is mine! »
while sitting on the floor,
cardboard crown on the head,
lost eyes in a dream that smells like powder and sweat.

Tragedy or comedy?
Whatever:
History never backs up.
But he hangs, ridiculous,
to a past that will not return,
if it's in nightmares.

Act IV: The Billionaire, King of the Self-Proclaimed World

He sits on his golden towers,
stacks billions like casino chips,
and believes that the entire planet
is a Monopoly plateau.

In his view, the nations are hotels,
the people of the pawns,
and democracy a simple toy,
easy to break when he loses the game.

He wants to rule not only America,
But on the waves, the screens, the dreams,
until imposing his logo as a banner
floating above the ruins.

In his eyes, there are no poor, no women, no colors:
There are only numbers.
Profits, deals, wars for sale.

And when he laughs at his orange mouth,
It's the echo of a tired empire
who still clings to illusion
that we can be king of the world
when the world itself collapses.

Epilogue

Four pranks. A wall, a clown, a ghost of glory, and a billionaire with a scepter of pacilla.

All swear « Save » America, but everyone is just ridiculing it more.

And in this disillusionment, a slogan still resonates, like an advertising rengaine:

« Make America Great Again ! ».

Actual translation:

  • Make America Hate Again – so that fear becomes national cement again.
  • Make America Late Again – to miss, once again, the train of history.
  • Make America Fake Again – to repaint the decline in gilding.

And while the crowd applauds this hollow slogan, the world looks elsewhere,
letting America declare its late grandeur in a theatre where the curtains are already burning.
